Young people and political participation in Europe: the contribution of the European Youth Forum (ft. Monika Skadborg)

Welcome back to Re-Thinking Education in Turbulent Times, the latest podcast series from the 89 Initiative’s Civic Education research team.

EPISODE 3 | Young people and political participation in Europe: the contribution of the European Youth Forum (ft.Monika Skadborg)

The participation and political representation of young people are at the core of the European project, but what kind and types of representation? And what role does civic education play in developing civic engagement and ensuring collective political action? In this episode, we sit with Monika Skadborg, President of the Danish Youth Climate Council and Board Member of the European Youth Forum (EYF), to discuss the role of the EYF in developing young people’s forms of civic engagement for Europe and in addressing current European concerns. In our conversation, we also discuss the enabling conditions, opportunities, and challenges that young Europeans have to become socialised to European citizenship. In the final part of the podcast, we look at the concept of “environmental citizenship” and at the role of education in helping students to take ownership of environmental issues.
